I have tried a lot of eco shampoo and conditioner bars, and KinKind are among the few that genuinely worked for my hair. The lather is good, a bar lasts well, and the card packaging is plastic free.

Updated April 2026, after over two years of daily use, here’s how our KinKind shampoo and conditioner bars have performed and held up over time.

How the KinKind Shampoo Bar Performs After 2 Years of Use

I’ve tried numerous eco-friendly shampoo and conditioner bars. However, hair care products from Kinkind have genuinely impressed me with their outstanding quality and effectiveness. Having used both the “Give Me Strength” and “Nourish Me” varieties, I am convinced that these are the best eco hair care products available.

My husband and I have been using Kinkind shampoo and conditioner bars for over 2 years, and we are truly impressed with the quality.

The shampoo bars lather exceptionally well, providing a thorough cleanse, while the conditioner bars offer deep moisturization that leaves our hair soft and shiny.

I have reviewed various hair care products before, including Ethique and Eco Warrior. While they are good, they don’t quite match the quality of Kinkind for me. Other eco-friendly brands I’ve tried, like Faith in Nature, have been underwhelming in comparison. Kinkind has truly set a new standard in my eco-friendly hair care routine.

Why Kinkind Stands Out

Kinkind’s shampoo and conditioner bars are designed with both quality and sustainability in mind. The “Give Me Strength” shampoo bar is formulated to strengthen hair, reducing breakage and enhancing resilience. The “Nourish Me” bar, on the other hand, focuses on hydration and softness, making it perfect for my dry hair.

What makes these bars exceptional is their ability to perform as well, if not better, than traditional liquid products. The shampoo bars produce a rich, luxurious lather that thoroughly cleanses the scalp and hair, a feature often missing in other eco-friendly shampoos.

Ingredients That Care

Kinkind uses high-quality, natural ingredients in their bars. Both the shampoo and conditioner bars are free from harmful chemicals like sulphates, parabens, silicones, and SLES. Instead, they contain nourishing ingredients such as:

  • Coconut Oil and Argan Oil (in “Nourish Me”): Known for its hydrating properties, it helps keep hair moisturised and healthy.
  • Wheatgerm Oil (in “Give Me Strength”): These ingredients enhance hair strength.

Reduce Plastic Waste

One of the most compelling reasons to switch to Kinkind is their commitment to reducing plastic waste. Each shampoo and conditioner bar lasts up to 50 washes, replacing up to four 250ml plastic bottles.

Kinkind’s products are hand-made in the UK and are shipped in plastic-free, recyclable packaging. Their approach ensures that the entire product lifecycle, from production to delivery, is as eco-friendly as possible.

My Experience

Since switching to Kinkind shampoo and conditioner bars, I’ve noticed a difference in my hair’s health and appearance.

One of the most exciting changes is the noticeable increase in baby hair growth, which indicates new hair development. Additionally, my hair feels thicker and has more volume than ever before.

Here’s a breakdown of how I use them:

  • Shampoo Bar: Wet the bar and rub it between your hands to create a lather. Alternatively, you can rub the bar directly onto your scalp and hair. Massage the lather into your hair and scalp, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Conditioner Bar: After shampooing, take the conditioner bar and stroke it down the length of your wet hair, from root to tip. I find it’s best to directly rub it on your hair. Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse. The conditioner instantly detangles and smooths your hair, making it feel silky and soft.

How to Store Your Shampoo and Conditioner Bar

For optimal results, store the bars on a dish or rack away from water to allow them to dry between uses. This helps extend their lifespan and ensures they remain effective.

For travel, Kinkind offers convenient aluminium tins that are perfect for carrying your bars without any mess.

Make sure you pat the bar dry before placing it in the tin. I made the mistake of storing it in the tin without drying it first, and it became mushy over time.

Comparison with Other Eco-Friendly Hair Care

I have tried other popular brands like Faith in Nature and Ethique. While Ethique comes close to Kinkind in terms of quality, it is noticeably more expensive.

Faith in Nature, on the other hand, is cheaper but doesn’t quite match the quality and effectiveness of Kinkind. Kinkind strikes the perfect balance between affordability and high performance, making it my top choice for eco-friendly hair care.

FAQ

Do KinKind shampoo bars really work?

Yes. After two years of use, we’ve found they clean as well as bottled shampoos and leave no heavy residue once your hair adjusts.

Is KinKind better than Ethique or other shampoo bars?

For us, KinKind performs better in scent and lather, while Ethique feels slightly richer. Both are good, but KinKind lasts longer for the price.

How long do KinKind bars last?

One shampoo bar lasts about 1 to 2 months of daily use, and the conditioner bar even longer. About 50 washes.

Do KinKind bars make hair greasy or dry?

Neither, once you get used to the formula. The first week can feel different, but after that our hair felt soft and clean.

Can you use KinKind bars with hard water?

Yes. They lather reasonably well even in hard water, though a vinegar rinse helps if your water is very mineral-rich.

Are KinKind bars worth it?

Yes. They’re plastic-free, UK-made, and still one of the best solid shampoos we’ve used long term.
