Superscandi Swedish Dishcloths

Swedish dishcloths have quickly gained popularity as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional paper towels and sponge cloths. These dishcloths are made of cellulose and cotton and are highly absorbent, durable, and easy to clean.
Pros
  • Reusable
  • Comes in Multiple Colours and Patterns
  • Absorbent
  • Durable
Cons
  • Only one size available
  • More expensive than normal cloths

Reasons We Love Superscandi Swedish Dishcloths

We made the swap from disposable paper towels to a reusable Swedish dishcloth for many reasons. Here are some of them.

Durable and Absorbent

Do you know that Superscandi can absorb up to 20 times its weight! One of the key benefits of Swedish dishcloths is their absorbency. These clothes can quickly soak up spills and messes, making them perfect for use in the kitchen and around the house. They are also very effective at removing dried-on food and grime from surfaces, thanks to their slightly abrasive texture.

Can be Washed Up to 200 Times!

When it is time to clean your Swedish dishcloth, toss it in the washing machine. These towels are built to last. They can be washed up to 200 times, giving you months of use from each purchase. One dishcloth is equivalent to 15 rolls of paper towels, making it an excellent investment for anyone looking to reduce their reliance on single-use products.

Made from Natural Materials

These reusable cloths are made from natural materials like cellulose, wood pulp (70%), and cotton (30%). They are a great alternative to disposable paper towels. Apart from that, their packaging is made from 100% recycled cardboard and/or cornstarch-based wrapping.

Fully Compostable

When they are no longer usable, they can be composted and broken down within 8-12 weeks, returning to the earth as nutrient-rich compost instead of ending up in landfills.

Quick Drying

Superscandi clothes are designed to dry quickly, so you won’t have to deal with the unpleasant odours that can come with using regular dishcloths. They can be rinsed under warm water and wrung out. They dry quickly and are ready to be used again in no time.

Review After One Month

After using a Swedish dishcloth for a month and washing it a few times, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the cloth was still in perfect condition.

These dishcloths are designed to be long-lasting and can withstand multiple washings, so they are an excellent investment for anyone looking to reduce their reliance on disposable cleaning products.

Bfefbo Compostable Sponges

If you want a more environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic sponges, consider making a swap to compostable sponges. The sponges from Bfefbo are made of sisal, coconut husk, and natural cellulose, which are fully compostable.
Pros
  • Durable
  • 3 types of sponges in a box
  • Suitable for Home composting
  • Long lasting with proper use and care
Cons
  • Scrubby Side disintegrates fast
  • Not as effective at scrubbing tough stains or dirt
  • More expensive than normal sponges

Why We Stopped Using Plastic Sponges

There are several reasons why we use compostable sponges and stopped using plastic sponges and why you should consider making a swap to a more sustainable and natural alternative:

  • Environmental Impact: Plastic sponges contribute to plastic pollution and take hundreds of years to break down. When plastic sponges disintegrate, they create microplastics that are too small to be filtered out and end up in our water cycle. Unfortunately, microplastics are even detected in our drinking water.
  • Shorter Lifespan: Our experience shows plastic sponges have a limited lifespan compared to compostable sponges. Plastic sponges disintegrate quickly and must be replaced more frequently, leading to more plastic waste.
  • Contain Harmful Chemicals: Plastic sponges are often treated with harmful chemicals that can leach into food and water.

Reasons We Love Bfefbo Compostable Sponges

Durable and Absorbent

We were pleasantly surprised by the durability of the compostable sponges. Despite being made from natural materials, they held up better than plastic sponges when scrubbing away dirt and grime.

They are also absorbent – they could quickly soak up spills and messes and didn’t fall apart or disintegrate like regular sponges.

Long Lasting

The information on the packaging claims that these sponges can last up to 6 weeks with care. We have been using our compostable sponges for a month, and the sponges are still in perfect shape with no sign of falling apart.

The pictures below show the sponges before and after one month of regular usage. Although the scrubby side has started to fall apart, the soft side is still working perfectly.

Unlike plastic sponges, compostable sponges can break down easily when it is no longer usable. These sponges made by Bfefbo are suitable for home composting. Once they have reached the end of their useful life, you can simply toss it in your home compost bin. To find out more about composting and how to get started, read our guidelines here.

Compostable items have much lower environmental impact as they can be returned to earth to break down naturally rather than sitting in a landfill.

We have been trying to incorporate more cork products in our daily lives as it is more environmentally friendly than leather and plastic. Its versatility and unique characteristics make it a desirable choice for many products, such as belts, bags, and shoes.

To know more about how sustainable cork is, read our comprehensive article here.

Made from Natural and Renewable Resources

Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree. The cork oak tree is not harmed during the harvesting process, and the bark can be harvested every 9-12 years, making cork a sustainable and renewable resource.

Cork is Incredibly Sustainable

Cork harvesting is typically done by hand, which can provide significant benefits to the local workforce in cork-producing regions.

In many cork-producing regions, cork harvesting is an essential source of income for local communities. The labor-intensive nature of the work means it can provide employment for many people.

Compostable

Cork is a natural and biodegradable material that is highly compostable. Instead of ending up in landfills, cork products can be returned to earth in a composting environment.

However, you would want to ensure that the product is made up of 100% cork and does not contain plastics before putting it in a compost bin.

Good Insulator and Water Resistant

The cork coasters and placemats are water-resistant, making them perfect for protecting the surface of your tables. Any spills on the placemats can be easily cleaned and wiped down with a damp cloth, making them convenient for everyday use.

Cork is made up of a network of air-filled cells that helps to insulate against heat and cold. This makes them an excellent choice for placemats, as it helps to keep your table cool and protect it from hot pots and dishes.

Suitable for Any Table Setting

Cork coasters and placemats are stylish and can add a touch of natural warmth and texture to your table setting.

They are available in various colors and patterns, so you can choose the ones that best match your decor.
