Trust & method

How We Test

We buy the products we review, live with them in a real home for months or years, and publish the verdict, cons included. If a unit is ever supplied to us instead of bought, the review says so. No sponsored tests, no pay-to-rate.

We buy it. We live with it. Then we write about it.

What happens before a review goes live

Jungle Hugger is not a test lab and does not claim to be one. There is no lab, and no panel of testers. There are two people using a product in their own kitchen and home the way you would, for as long as it takes to actually know it. This is the order it happens in, every time.

1

We buy it ourselves

We pay for the products we review with our own money. If a unit is ever supplied to us instead, the review it appears on says so, in the review itself, not tucked into a footer.

2

We live with it

It goes into the kitchen, the garden or the daily routine and stays there, for months and usually years, until we know how it behaves when it is worn in rather than brand new. Every review carries a dated Experience Log saying how long we have owned it and how often it is actually used.

3

We write down what went wrong

A drawback that would talk you out of the purchase stays on the page, next to the rating rather than buried under it. Nothing is softened to protect a score, and a cheaper thing that does the job just as well gets said out loud.

4

The verdict comes first, the link second

The product is tested, the conclusion is reached, and only then is an affiliate link added. The process never works in reverse. If a commission would have pointed us at a different recommendation, the recommendation wins.

5

We change our minds in public

A product goes on being used after we publish. When our experience of it changes, we update the review, stamp it, and say what changed on the original page rather than making a quiet edit. A verdict is revisited because there is a reason to, never on a schedule.

Things you will never see here

These are not ambitions. They are the lines we hold whatever it costs, and if you ever spot us slipping, tell us.

How our ratings work

A score on this site is an editorial judgement reached after living with the thing. It is not an average of reader votes, not a figure handed to us by a brand, and not a number tuned to what pays best.

Scores are judgement, not arithmetic

Scores are our own editorial judgement after buying and using the product, not an average of reader votes or a number supplied by a brand. We do not accept payment to change a rating, and a negative verdict stays negative.

The offer we turned down

A cookware brand offered to send us a full set of nonstick pans, around €1200 worth, in exchange for a review. It was a real offer and that is real money. But nonstick is exactly the category we would not recommend: the coating degrades, the lifespan is short, and it is a problem to recycle at the end of it. The only honest review we could have written would have been a negative one, so we wrote nothing at all.

Saying no cost us a full set of cookware and a published post. It also means that when we do recommend a pan, you can take it at face value.

Who is behind the verdict

Farah and Finn outdoors in the mountains, founders of Jungle Hugger.
Farah and Finn, Jungle Hugger

The products reviewed here belong to Farah and Finn, Jungle Hugger’s co-founders. The use is theirs and so are the verdicts, and their names, not a brand’s, are the byline on the page.

Finn is an Irish writer who researches and reviews sustainable-living products, from home projects to eco-friendly gear, with a focus on quality over consumption. Farah is a Malaysian-born plant-based cook who develops the Farah’s Foods recipes and brings the same no-waste thinking to the kitchen products we review.

Where AI helps, and where it stops

Our AI policy

AI tools may assist with research and drafting, but every verdict, rating, and first-hand claim is written and verified by Farah or Finn from their own use of the product.

Frequently asked

Do you accept free products to review?

Not usually. We are occasionally offered products for review and we turn most of them down: if we can already tell that something falls short of the standard we would recommend to a friend, we say no, with thanks. If we were ever to take a sample instead of buying it, the review it appears on would say so.

Does a review ever get updated after it is published?

Yes. Each review carries an Updated stamp on its Editorial Verdict, and each one is revisited on its own timeline as real use continues, not on a shared schedule. When our view of a product changes, the change is made on the original page and said out loud.

Does an affiliate commission change what you recommend?

No. The order is fixed: the product is tested, the conclusion is reached, and only then is an affiliate link added. Every review carries the same byline, Farah & Finn · Personally owned · No PR samples, and discloses that we may earn a commission if you buy through a link. The commission is disclosed, and it is not what decides the verdict.

Do you use AI to write your reviews?

AI tools may assist with research and drafting, but every verdict, rating, and first-hand claim is written and verified by Farah or Finn from their own use of the product.

The bottom line
  • We buy what we review. If a unit is ever supplied to us instead, that review says so on its own page.
  • We use it before we judge it. Months or years of ordinary use, not a launch-week impression.
  • The verdict is ours. Not a brand’s, not a commission’s, and not written for us by a machine.
